Hi there! I’m Amy of Coincidence Cosplay.

You likely found me from my social media, my podcast (The Sandersonian Institute of Cosmere Studies) or you bumped into me at a convention.

I’ve cosplayed since 2014, starting with doing Amy Pond (Dr. Who) and the 12th Dr. They were items acquired from thrift stores and my closet.

2015 I was very busy with a newborn and toddler. I made a few cute costumes for them and survived being outnumbered during the day.

In 2016 I moved onto Commander Shepard (Mass Effect) and did rivets in actual metal for all the different armor plate sections.

I did Toph Beifong (AtLA) and Fem-Star Lord (GotG2) in 2017. I managed to get on stage at the Salt Lake Comic Con (now FanX) cosplay contest with my Commander Shepard that year and it was a blast. I also started working on Nyreen Kandros (ME3) with a mask from Red Nebula Studio and I still need to finish it. But at least the mask looks amazing and I made stilts! Now I just need to have stronger legs and more practice.

I made the animated Lady Tremaine (Cinderella) costume for the contest at FanX in 2018 and made a child cry while on stage. I started my Nazgul and finally finished it in 2022 – the armor were the last items to be done.

I did Casual Anna (Ralph Breaks the Internet) in a group, Queen Elinor (Brave) in 2019. I also made my Hufflepuff cloak and bought the parts to make a school uniform Nymphadora Tonks (Harry Potter). Stretching myself, I shared a booth at FanX and sold my plush dice. I bought my first and only Zentai suit of Kitty Pryde (X-Men) and only really wore it once.

Then 2020 happened. I made four Mistcloaks (Mistborn) and kept one for myself for my Vin cosplay.

2021 was a bit of a blur. I worked on my D&D Rogue, my Loki Variant (Loki), Hera (Lore Olympus) and my Twi’lek Smuggler (Star Wars) which has evolved a few times.

In 2022 I tried to pace myself to take care of my arm, but I still managed to finish my Kaylee Frye (Firefly), made and bought Hobbit pieces for my daughter and me, bought an Imperial Officer (Star Wars) uniform for me, and I pulled together a President Loki (Loki) to match my friend’s Ancient One (Dr. Strange) costume at FanX this year. I also made and bought parts for a Marasi Colms (Mistborn Era 2) cosplay for the second Dragonsteel convention. Like noted above, I finally have finished my Nazgul. And! I finally placed in my third novice level cosplay competition – I got one of the Judge’s Choice awards with my Nazgul at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in October. Still can’t believe that happened and I am so glad! Because I can finally move out the packed novice level into intermediate! Which, let’s be honest, is filled with amazing makers, too.

2023 felt like the year of the Jawa for me. I joined two different Star Wars clubs – Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion, both with my Jawa costume. It has been an aboslute blast! I love getting to run around as a Jawa and photobomb, borrow people’s hats for pictures and generally get into harmless shenaningans. I also pieced together a pretend D&D group for TikTok videos, made Frugal Wizard hats, made a Shallan Davar havah dress (Stormlight Archive), and a Warrior Snow White based on some IG art. And a friend made me the Black Series version of the Christmas Jawa. My poor husband must have rolled his eyes a lot at how many times I added “just one more thing….”

And now it’s 2024! I finally am happy with how my website is looking and I have plans for even more costumes! A refresh of my Jawa (to fix the neckline), Biker Scout (Star Wars) for sure and maybe even competing as a Sister of Battle (Warhammer 40k) with a working prop chainsword, if I can manage my time well enough. We’ll see how it all turns out!

I also have way too many costumes planned or in a half-done stage, as I’m sure many cosplayers are familiar with. And then there’s the random props and commissions I’ve done for people. I still feel like I have a lot of ways I could improve and look forward to the growth in my future.
